Song Charting Made Easy – Right Here [Play-along]

Drum play-along of song #4 « Right Here » from the book SONG CHARTING MADE EASY by Jim Riley, published by Hal Leonard.

Song #4 of the 10 full songs included in the book is « Right Here », a medium tempo rock ballad (tempo 92 bpm). It has an interesting structure, with both verses and choruses having an A and B section, a Bridge with 9 bars, a nice breakdown section before the final chorus and guitar solo play out, plus some nice changes in dynamics at various points in the song.

The drum part is based on my transcription of Jim Riley’s original version, with some changes here and there to suit my tastes, or simplified so that I can play the trickier fills.

Drum transcription PDF of my version can be downloaded here: https://adedrums.com/song-analysis/song-charting-made-easy/song-04-right-here/

[About the click] The click is part of the backing track, so can’t be removed. Hope you don’t find it too annoying. On the other hand, it reveals where my timing is good and not so good – which can only help me to improve.

Audio/MIDI Recording

  • TD-25 USB Midi/Audio into Presonus Studio One (v3.5.6)
  • MacBook Pro 13″ (2010) with SSD HDDs and RAM upgraded to 16Gb.

MIDI is recorded in real-time, and then run back through EZDrummer2 for the mix down. Despite the temptation to edit the MIDI and fix one or two minor timing/dynamics issue, I didn’t. What you hear is exactly how I played it.
